Architecture department has the basic equipment’s and furniture to complete the needs of the department. We decided to reconstruct the former building phenomena museum of Afghanistan located at KPU, Construction physics lab and drawings and model making labs soon. Our drawing halls are equipped with computers and basic furniture which help us in theoretical and practical teaching. Our fourth and final year student design their final year and diploma projects with the help of developed computer software such as Auto CAD , Rivet and 3D Max. The final year students do their diploma projects in the field of Architecture and design different buildings such us: Architecture design of (Schools, Hospital, Polyclinics, Mosques, Banks, Residential and Trade buildings, Terminals, Sport complex, Clops, and Factory) buildings. Student usually select a site from Master plan within Kabul and or provinces and then complete Architecture design of that specific project both in ten A1 graphical sheets and a hundred illustrative A4 pages as a monograph.

In addition to teaching, our lecturers and assistant lecturers perform academic research projects to improve their knowledge and provide new teaching materials to the students. Now, we do research in the following areas:

  1. Study and analyses of the Architectural and Urban planning issue;
  2. Study of the new build cities with Afghanistan;
  3. Study of the methods and design of building architecture in Afghanistan;
  4. Study of Afghanistan climate in different zones;
  5. Providing code of practice and norms about residential and trade buildings.

Every year in addition to the academic research we do translate many assistive books from English and Russian language to our national languages.  Also, some of our lectures have published many Architecture books which are important material and information for student and professional Architects and Engineers. In order to develop and educate our young assistant lecturers we deliver seminars every year and analyze all of the new research papers that are published within KPU and Architectural deportment/faculty.

As we know providing papers in the national language is very important for every society. Therefore, lecturers in this department always try to publish and translate books, some of which are summarized in the following table:

To improve the teaching systems and methods, we provide academic seminars and conferences on a regular basis, the result of such seminars then discussed in the department in order to find appropriate methods and teaching techniques applicable within the current curricula.  Architectural department has signed many MoUs with sectorial Ministries and Independent office such as Creda and Municipality and our professional staff are in contact with them to change ideas and help each other when it is necessary. The first graduate students completed their education in 1365 and since then many students got their Master degree in the field of Architecture. During the last decades of ware and instability in the country, most of the University labs and equipment’s were destroyed and therefore in 1374

In 1373 Government through MoHE announced that after this Polytechnic Institute may not graduate their students as Master and since then we are graduating Bachelor level students. In the below table you There is the numbers of the graduated students from Architectural department since its establishments:

The projects that board of professor are going to hand over to the architecture students as their final assignment are mostly plans for various industrial estate and civic building including school, Mosques, clinics, banks, commercial properties, residential properties, Airports Terminals, Sport and cultural centers, stadiums and many other building include in Kabul master plan which mostly will have comparative aspects and upon completion their designs under, the supervision of their teacher ; students will forward their findings to a qualified academic commission including , Department lecture in the university and other academic institution.

Upon completion of their education, Engineering students graduated from Kabul poly technical University can work in any private and governmental institution of their choice.

The hop and future of construction Faculty was to create a new department for Urban and city Planning.

At the moment urban city planning is an independents department operating under the faculty of Engineering. and Architectural department help them as a mother department.

In order to enter engineering school students must complete kankor Entrance Exam and then they will be introduce to their selected fields by the chair of kankor committee and Ministry of higher education. The first two semester in year one are general subjects and are taught combined with student from all departments.

The period of Bachelor degree in this department is four and half year diploma course. The student will learn all the associated content subjects in topics for 8 semester and in their 9nd semester ; under the supervision of their teacher the student will start to plan and complete their projects by the end if semester in the presence of nominees to the accredited academic commission, other professor from the department and professionals to the have successfully completed their projects and achieved good marks they will then be presented their engineering diploma license.

2-Requirement assessments, recourse and practices:

Building contemporary structure and constant growth in engineering disciplines are latest achievements of technological techniques and training professionals .An experience engineer patriot to country, faithful to Islam , humanity and professional will start his career based on requirement for the country.

Since rapid growth in economy, society and culture sectors are linked to professional and high quality educational institute, surely rebuilding and reviving our war torn country without constant rebuilding and reviving polytechnic university of Kabul especially engineering department and reconsidering center can use their knowledge and play a vital rule to take part in rebuilding the infrastructure of this country.

Upon contacting institutes and offices who offered jobs hired engineering graduates after their graduation and also interweaving the graduates, they all said that had to take extra private courses in order to fulfill their job rule requirement, these courses are not included in the previous teaching curriculum, it is impossible to avoid this any further vital to add these courses to the curriculum in engineering department so that the graduates are aware of the current market requirements. It is then when professors in the engineering departments decided to bring up to date changes in their curriculum and prepare to present new curriculum for approval.

3. finding resources, the need to review and change the objective of the program:

In the past 15 years Architectural department has impressively grown in terms of quality and availability in resources ; however this growth is not up to standard in meeting present market requirements, significant changes must be made in teaching the standard. it is therefore that the professors of the department with faculty of contraction decided to bring significant changes in their teaching programs. At first the changes were added to the program and then the contents of majority of the subjects were revised so that it is up to date with present demand.
