Brief Introduction of Architecture Department and Master’s Program of Building Architecture
The Department of Architecture, within the Faculty of Construction at Kabul Polytechnic University, was established in 1981 to train technical and professional architects and to address the country's need for Architects & Engineers. For the first time, this department made it possible for Afghan youth to pursue higher education at the Master’s level in Architecture within the country.
The Department of Architecture, which in fact laid the foundation of engineering education in Afghanistan, currently enrolls (30–50) undergraduate students and 30 master’s students annually. At present, seven academic staff members are teaching in the department, working together to educate and mentor students effectively.
The department’s curriculum is designed based on the programs of many international universities and engineering institutions, while carefully integrating national characteristics and the needs of Afghan society. The department strives to use methods and approaches that enable graduates not only to solve daily engineering design problems but also to identify and address new challenges arising from social and economic developments. It emphasizes that engineers must recognize and nurture their creative and professional abilities through awareness of these evolving issues.
The department also organizes research programs for its faculty to study contemporary engineering and urban development problems in Afghanistan. The research outcomes are intended to benefit both the teaching process and the economic, social, and cultural sectors of Afghanistan.
Mission of the Department
Our mission is to provide high-quality education and services to all eligible students by offering effective teaching, research, and leadership in national projects that contribute to the country’s growth, development, and progress. Our graduates are expected to meet the professional and technical demands of Afghan society.
Vision of the Department
Our vision is to establish a specialized higher education system in Architecture that meets Afghanistan’s current development needs both quantitatively and qualitatively, and competes academically with universities in the region and the world.
