Information Technology Directorate
Introduction
In the modern era, characterized by rapid advancements in science, engineering, and technology, information technology has become an essential and highly valuable asset for organizations. Most institutions have fully recognized that the effective use of IT significantly accelerates daily operations and enables clients to benefit from a wide range of efficient services.
Universities, in particular, leverage technology to deliver services that are faster, more accurate, and of higher quality. In this context, the Information Technology Directorate of Kabul Polytechnic University has consistently strived to maximize the utilization of modern technologies to simplify and enhance service delivery across the university.
Established in 2004 under the organizational structure of the Academic Affairs Office as the Information Technology Center (ITCKPU), the Directorate serves as the central authority responsible for delivering IT services and addressing all information technology-related challenges within Kabul Polytechnic University.
Objectives
To design and implement effective IT programs; to supervise, control, and manage technical operations related to hardware, software, and network servers; and to systematically establish and provide the required IT infrastructure and services in accordance with national and international standards across Kabul Polytechnic University.

Organizational Structure of the IT Directorate
General Management of Technical Affairs and Network
This division is responsible for delivering internet services, expanding network infrastructure, configuring servers, managing telecommunication networks, and resolving related technical issues.
The university currently operates with an internet capacity of 170 Mbps, providing services to all staff and students, which is managed and maintained by this division.
General Management of IT and Video Conferencing
This division oversees the organization and management of all video conferences, including the setup and maintenance of conference rooms, classrooms, and halls. It is also responsible for maintaining video conferencing equipment, conducting training workshops, monitoring security camera systems, providing playback services upon request, and managing administrative operations of the Directorate.
General Management of Software and Web Development
This division is responsible for maintaining and developing the university’s website, publishing announcements and news, enhancing website content, supervising and installing software across all departments, and resolving software-related issues for staff and students.
General Management of Hardware
This division handles all hardware-related issues, including the maintenance and repair of computers, printers, photocopiers, switches, UPS systems, projectors, LCD displays, NVRs, DVRs, and scanners across all university departments.

- Provision of internet services to faculty members, staff, and students
- Installation, monitoring, and maintenance of security camera systems across the university
- Resolution of software-related issues for all users
- Resolution of hardware-related issues across all departments
- Creation and management of official email accounts
- Publication of news, announcements, seminars, faculty profiles, and other essential content on the university website
- Management of dormitory biometric systems, including Access Control, Real-time monitoring, and Attendance tracking
- Delivery of IT training services in classrooms and laboratories
- Provision of internal and external communication services via PBX and IMS systems
Innovations and Achievements
- Establishment of a fully equipped video conferencing facility within the IT Center
- Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Afghan Telecom to activate IMS services for external communications
- Implementation of ICDL training programs for university staff
- Development of comprehensive policies and procedures, including:
- Protection and maintenance of IT equipment
- Use of studio facilities for producing educational content
- Management and security of surveillance data
- Internet usage policies
- Guidelines for dormitory internet access
- Regulations for the use of computer laboratories
- Deployment of an FTP server to facilitate the sharing of software and essential files
- Modernization and upgrading of IT infrastructure with advanced technological equipment
- Establishment of an internet club for dormitory students to improve access and support
- Standardization of the dormitory biometric network system
- Creation of an Innovation and Technology Development Center within the IT Directorate
Future Plans
In order to enhance technical services, expand user accessibility, and strengthen IT infrastructure, the Directorate has outlined the following strategic plans:
- Expansion of the IT Center to deliver services aligned with national and international standards
- Development and modernization of wired and wireless network systems
- Upgrading existing servers and establishing a centralized data storage and management system
- Implementation of solar power systems to ensure reliable electricity for laboratories and IT infrastructure
- Standardization of hardware and software systems based on a unified policy framework
- Organization of workshops and seminars on emerging technologies
- Continuous improvement of internet quality and speed through advanced network management
