Geological Engineering And Exploration of Mines
Brief Introduction to the Master's Program of the Department of Geological Engineering and Mineral Exploration
The Department of Geological Engineering and Mineral Exploration was established in 1346 AH at the time of the establishment of Kabul Polytechnic University under the name "Department of Geology, Prospecting and Exploration of Solid Mines" and as a parent department, it continues its activities as a center for graduating geology and mine engineers.
One year after the establishment of this department, a new department under the name "Extraction of Solid Mines" and two years later another department under the name "Geology, Prospecting, Exploration and Extraction of Oil and Gas Fields" were separated from this department, and both of the aforementioned departments continue their scientific and academic activities as graduate departments in the Solid Mines Extraction Engineering and Oil and Gas Mine Engineering sections.
In 1392 AH, considering the importance of geoengineering and hydrogeology research in various construction and industrial matters, the department under the name "Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology" was separated from the aforementioned department as an independent and graduate field, which presented the first batch of engineers of the Geology and Hydrogeology Department to the society in 1397 AH.
The Department of Geological Engineering and Mineral Exploration has trained thousands of engineers in the Geology field to the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels throughout its academic life and has presented them to the society for the purpose of serving the society.
The department was able to start a master's program in the framework of the Faculty of Geology and Mines in 1358 AH and trained hundreds of engineers to the master's level and continued until 1378. Since 1378 AH, due to the civil wars and the lack of experienced professors and equipment, the master's program was stopped. After completing the equipment and accepting experienced professors, the department was able to revive the evening master's program in the framework of the Faculty of Geology and Mines in 1393 AH, and it has been successfully carried out to this day.
Geological engineers who have graduated from this department have worked actively in the fields of geological mapping, prospecting and exploration of solid mineral deposits, and have made valuable contributions as skilled specialists in preparing geological maps of various areas of the country, prospecting and exploration and calculation of reserves of various minerals such as (metallic, non-metallic and combustible).
In 1393 AH, based on the proposal of the Department's Professors' Assembly, the approval of the Faculty's Scientific Council and the University's Scientific Council, and the approval of the competent authorities of the Ministry of Higher Education, the name of this department was changed to Geological Engineering and Mineral Exploration.
The Master's degree program in برنامه ماستری انجنیری جیولوجی و اکتشاف معادن (in Dari), Geological Engineering and Mineral Exploration (in English), and د جیولوجی او د کانونو اکتشاف انجنیري ماسټري (in Pashto) is open to young professionals who have completed their undergraduate studies and are eligible to pursue it. During their studies, students will be exposed to educational and research activities in accordance with international standards and will acquire the necessary skills in various areas of the field of Geological Engineering and Mineral Exploration.
