Department of Surveying

Department of Surveying

The Department of Surveying is a unique department that has been in existence since the early establishment of Kabul Polytechnic University. Initially part of the Faculty of Geology and Mining, since 2014 it has been functioning under the Faculty of Geomatics Engineering. Its purpose is to advance theoretical and practical education in surveying for the faculties of civil engineering, transportation engineering, geology and mining, and water resources and environmental engineering. Since maps and plans are widely used in all these fields, it is essential for engineers to understand their characteristics, be able to read them correctly, and possess the ability to create maps and plans. This knowledge enables them to carry out the necessary surveying measurements and calculations in engineering construction, exploration, and extraction of useful minerals.

Objectives of the Department

The Department of Surveying has the following objectives:

  • Continuous review and updating of the curriculum for surveying in various fields.
  • Equipping the department with modern surveying equipment and tools.
  • Providing continuous theoretical knowledge necessary for various engineering fields.
  • Training young professionals in different engineering disciplines with quality surveying knowledge to meet project requirements.
  • Enhancing faculty capacity and creating a suitable social and ethical environment while avoiding political, ethnic, linguistic, and religious biases.
  • Continuous review of surveying curricula for various university fields.
  • Creating a standard database and website for the department.

Vision

The Department of Surveying aims to be a reliable educational reference within the university, offering fundamental surveying concepts to other engineering disciplines in a scientific, clear, and practical manner. With skilled faculty members, organized coursework, and suitable educational facilities, the department strives to empower students of various disciplines in understanding the principles of surveying and its applications in their respective specialties, ultimately enhancing the quality of education and their professional capacities.

Mission

The Department of Surveying is committed to enhancing knowledge and scientific skills in related fields while creating a sustainable educational environment. It is dedicated to offering a variety of effective courses to provide students from various disciplines with the necessary training in surveying and mapping sciences.

Activities of the Department

  • Collaborating with students from various fields in executing practical applications.
  • Actively participating in and presenting research papers at annual scientific conferences of the Faculty of Geomatics Engineering at Kabul Polytechnic University.
  • Providing ongoing technical consultancy to the engineering maintenance department of Kabul Polytechnic University regarding internal and external university projects.

Facilities

The Department of Surveying is equipped with modern laboratories and surveying tools, conducting laboratory work for students from various disciplines. Laboratory activities are carried out by undergraduate students and faculty members.
