Construction Engineering And Management Department

  • Introduction:

The Department of Construction and Engineering Management, by complying with the laws, regulations and bills of the Ministry of Higher Education, existing conditions, and facilities, has been the first department in the field of leading construction project management at the university and country level. Implementing its current and future activities with keeping in mind the vision and mission, available opportunities based on financial issues, budget, independent base, human resources and available facilities.

According to contemporary necessity, in 2010 a new department was established under the name of Department of Construction Management in Kabul Polytechnic University's Faculty of Construction, which was headed for the first time by Professor Dr. Mohammad Yusuf Qayumi. Now headed by Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammad Najim Wahedy. In 2013, the first group of students was introduced to this department through the entrance examination, and several graduation ceremonies have been completed so far. Students continue their courses regularly every year, who, along with other contemporary engineering sciences, learn topics such as construction technology, construction project organization, project management and construction leadership in an exclusive way. In 2020, the master's program of this department was established. Each year this department has the largest number of volunteer compared to other construction departments. Master's students graduate from the Master's program after completing three semesters of studying courses and one semester of research by publishing at least one scientific paper and defending their thesis to jury committee.

Construction and Engineering Management Department uses contemporary and effective methods of teaching theories, practical lessons, laboratory works, seminars, scientific conferences of professors and students, assignments, application of engineering software. access to Internet, providing scientific and academic relations and collaborations with professors of engineering faculties at domestic and international universities, exchanging experiences with construction companies, institutions. It is worth noting that the Department of Construction Management is equipped with a laboratory for testing building materials and elements, which is used for the laboratory experimental by professors and students.

It is one of the wishes of the Department of Construction Management that the young generation of the country from each race and tribes should work under a single roof of merit without any kind of discrimination, and after graduation, share their responsibility for reconstruction of the country and perform their responsibility honestly as a countryman.

The study extend in this department is 9 semesters or four and a half years, which has been adapted to the credit system based on the development plan of the Ministry of Higher Education. During eight semesters, the students of this department have studied theoretical, practical and laboratory courses. At ninth semester, they carry out the diploma project based on the collected necessary data and defend it in the presence of a special committee consisting of professors of the department, relevant departments and other construction institutions, and if successful, they will receive their bachelor's degree.

The main goal of this department is to train national and patriotic staff in the field of management and leadership of construction projects and to improve their professional skills. The professors of the department mostly spend their time studying, translating famous foreign books, teaching and other academic matters. The professors always make serious efforts to prepare and update the curriculum regularly after a defined period of time. The academic results of the implementation of teaching guild lines, projects, homework, mid-semester and final exams results, and practical works are evaluated and necessary action adopted. Currently, the laboratory of construction materials of this department has started to operate, and professors are conducting laboratory experimental for students..

  8. Completing and hiring academic staff members at the department level based on necessity.
  9. Development master's programs and their thesis based on society problems
  10. Acquiring academic and economic independence.
  11. Implementation of research and management projects.
  12. By studying a bachelor's course with existing syllabus, the graduates of this field will achieve the following goals and have the following skills:
    • planning, managing and organizing the affairs of various construction projects with today's new technology,
    • solving theoretical and practical problems in case of field problems,
    • Management and promotion of construction companies,
    • familiarity with the planning and design system of buildings and elements,
    • familiarity with the estimation of building materials and elements,
    • Determining and choosing suitable building materials for each type of building.
