The Kabul Polytechnic University Library was established simultaneously with the founding of the university on 21 Maysan 1342 (Shams) corresponding to October 13, 1963.

With over 70,000 books, journals, periodicals, and other engineering resources, the Kabul Polytechnic University Library is one of the largest libraries in the region. This library was established to provide excellent services to the university's students, faculty, and staff. In the university library, you can access a rich and diverse collection of resources in scientific, historical, and technical fields, as well as on all subjects taught in the university's eight faculties. Additionally, the library provides cardholders with amenities such as book loans, a quiet study environment, internet access services, and access to digital resources.

The university library has 13 computer workstations, 190 internet ports, and Wi-Fi access, which patrons can use.

Esteemed patrons can take advantage of this library's benefits daily, from Saturday to Thursday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Job Purpose: To organize library affairs in order to create research and study facilities for faculty and students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties: -

  1. Overseeing subordinate staff to train and better advance their work;
  2. Overseeing the implementation of the department's goals and programs;
  3. Controlling the arrangement and organization of books and other scientific and research publications in various sections to facilitate access;
  4. Overseeing the donation of books to central and provincial university libraries for their collections;
  5. Providing recommendations on the acquisition and purchase of books and other equipment needed by the library and its users;
  6. Ensuring the library's internet is active for student and researcher use.
  7. Ensuring that books are collected and registered in the name of the relevant trustee for their preservation and maintenance.

Managerial Duties:-

  1. Preparation and arrangement of monthly, quarterly, and annual work plans in accordance with the general management plan to achieve set objectives;
  2. Managing, evaluating performance, determining training needs, and enhancing the capacity of staff and relevant departments;
  3. Providing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on activities as needed;
  4. Performing other duties related to the position as assigned by the relevant supervisor.

Coordination Duties:

  1. Coordination with all relevant departments and offices as needed and when necessary.

 

Employment Conditions:-

  1. Must be an Afghan national;
  2. Age shall be no less than 18 and no more than 64 years;
  3. Education Level: At least a Bachelor's degree or its equivalent from domestic or foreign religious schools approved by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Work Experience: At least one year

Required Skills: -

  1. Proficiency in official languages;
  2. Computer skills in programs relevant to the job.
  3. Ability to implement the relevant department's policies.

 

 

 

Major Achievements of the General Library Management

 

The Public Library Management has had numerous achievements in various sectors. A few of these can be cited as examples:

  1. Since 1380 A.H. to the present, a total of (27867 ) volumes of books with various titles have been printed at the Kabul Polytechnic University Press. After undergoing the public library's procedures, they have been made available to our esteemed patrons. In addition to these books, numerous others have been purchased or donated to the public library by various esteemed institutions. After the necessary processing, these too have been made available to our esteemed patrons.
  2. Since the Kabul Polytechnic University Public Library is one of the largest libraries in the country and the region in the field of engineering, it has always strived to provide domestic universities with the books they need to enhance their capabilities. Among these, the provision of books to the aforementioned universities can be cited:

    2. Assistance with (90) various book titles to Loya University
    3. Assistance with (45) various book titles to Farayab University
    4. Assistance of (39) various book titles to Takhar University
    5. Assistance (30) titles of various books to Paktya University
    6. Assistance (20) assorted book titles to Panjshir University
    7. Assistance (30) assorted book titles to Balkh University
    8. Assistance (28) Various book titles to Jowzjan University
    9. Assistance (3) assorted book titles to Bamyan University
    10. Assistance (20) assorted book titles to Laghman University
    11. Assistance (25) assorted book titles to Sar-e Pul University

In addition to the aforementioned list, the library of Kabul Polytechnic University has also provided the necessary cooperation with other institutions and universities.

  1. Most of the books in the public library have been cataloged in a standard format using the LLC system and arranged in their designated sections.
  2.  The list of books available in the library has been sent to all relevant parties.
  3.  A database of the library's available books has been compiled, and its link has been shared with the university's faculties and all relevant departments and ministries for easy access.
  4. Distribution of library membership cards to faculty members and students
  5.  Distribution of books to faculty members, students, and external patrons
  6.  Collecting books from faculty members, students, and external patrons, and placing them on the appropriate shelves after ensuring their physical condition is sound.
