Oil and Gas Mines Engineering Department :

Department of Oil and Gas Mines Engineering was established in the Geology and Mines Faculty in 1967. Department with its short name Oil and Gas, since establishment until now has tried to strengthen theoretical lessons and students’ practical regional work in various parts of the country and has also ratified mutual cooperation contract with the ministry of Mines and Industries.

For the practical works, department of Oil and Gas had numerous laboratories in the field of geology, geochemistry of oil and gas, logging and exploration or applied geophysics, underground hydro-gas dynamics, drilling of oil and gas wells, oil and gas mines exploitation techniques and technology, drilling-geophysics polygon’s and scientific research laboratory of the Ministry of Mines in the Kabul Polytechnic University (KPU) campus. These laboratories had been destroyed or looted during more than three decade civil war which are not useable, because till now they have not been rehabilitated nor reconstructed.

Right now in the department of Oil and Gas honor lecturers not only been busy with promoting the teaching of various subjects, but they are rigorously engaged in scientific research in the field of productive industries for the developing and growth of national economy in the following issues:

Reset process of investigation and exploration of oil and gas fields of the country.
To avoid problems during oil and gas wells’ drilling.
To find the ways to increase productivity of oil and gas wells in the northern part of the country.
Rehabilitation of Afghanistan by utilizing the underground natural resources (oil and gas).
Using thermal methods for increasing oil wells extraction in the Northern Afghanistan.
Controls gas fields from hydrates process during exploiting, in the Northern Afghanistan.
Indicators and standards for assessing industrial presence of oil and gas in the North-western part of Afghanistan.
Assessing the prospective of oil and gas sedimentary cover in the middle mass of the Southern Afghanistan. It is mentionable that the graduated students from this department can work freely in the fields of geology and exploration of oil and gas fields, geophysics, wells drilling and exploitation of oil and gas mines.

Oil and Gas department scientific staffs are always trying for equipping and completing the laboratories to prepare opportunity for Masters (Mac) and doctorate (PhD) higher education. However, this will be done when the department of Oil and Gas in the Kabul Polytechnic University has been connected to one of the developed countries higher education institutions and to work on various shared research projects in the field of geology, exploration and exploitation of oil and gas fields.
